Young People
Llanmaes does not have a dedicated youth facility of its own. However, given its proximity to Llantwit Major, young people of an appropriate age are encouraged to take advantage of the recently refurbished Youth Centre in the town. Llantwit Major also offers a fully refurbished leisure centre with an excellent range of amenities and facilities for both novice and experienced sportspeople alike.
In conjunction with the Welsh Arts Council, negotiations have been taking place with a view to providing a series of entertainment packages targeted at the younger residents of the village. These aim to include children's theatre groups, puppet shows and live entertainment. The support offered by parents — in providing supervisory services and helping with organising and preparatory duties — has been particularly encouraging.
Until recently there was a playgroup in Llanmaes, held in the Village and Church Hall on weekday mornings. Unfortunately, it came to a close following the retirement of its group leader. However, negotiations are now understood to be taking place with another resident who wishes to resurrect the group.
Older Residents
The older residents of the village are offered every opportunity to take part in the full range of social activities and events, many of which are in fact organised by those very same "senior citizens". Age is no barrier when it comes to involvement in conservation and Best Kept Village projects either — the energy and commitment of the village's elders has been one of the defining features of Llanmaes's many competition victories.
